Default Accurate cross cutting without TS

I'd like to be able to make accurate, 90 degree, square, straight cross cuts but at the moment I don't have the skill or equipment to do so.

I am currently making a dining chair from mahogany and my results are not perfect and I want them to be.

I don't have a table saw and for various reasons it is not possible to get one. I have a mitre saw but that is not doing the job. I've been reading previous articles and have seem discussions on "mitre trimmers". Is this the answer for me?

A mitre trimmer will do the job provided it can be adjusted to a 90 degree angle.

The cheapest effective alternative is make a shooting board and use a sharp hand plane to trim your saw cuts.

This is a darkside method that is very easy to do.

    Hi Arch!

I also don't have a TS, and can't have one at the moment. I do as Echnidna said: first I crosscut as accurate as possible, either freehand or by using a mitre box. Then, I use a shooting board with a Stanley No7 jointer, and the results are great, perfect (it really surprised me the first time I tried!). I seem to believe that you may find some "shooting board" posts around here, with pictures, etc.

There are be better options for shooting planes than a Stanley 7, but so far I feel comfortabe with it, and the mass helps a lot.

    Hope it helps!

I have tried the shooting board but it hasn't given me great results. I might have to try again.
