    Default New Activity Centre

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a new drill press from the new Carbatec Store in Launceston. This is a bit bigger to lug about than my previous smaller Ryobi drill.

So I decided to convert my old welding table (hardly used) into a mobile workbench for the drill, grinder and sander. On Friday I went to Carbatec and got a mobile machine base (600 pound). The owner of the store did warn me that the bases did not come with any instructions at all.

Anyway it all went together pretty easily, however there were some bits (8) left over and I cannot imagine what they are for. (pics 4 + 5). They obviously go onto the side and front peices for something. They can't be to hold machine legs in place as they do not go past the corner brackets.

Has anyone any idea what they are.

Those bits or clamps can be used to replace the bolts that you have used to lock any of the two cross arms together. You have to slide them on as you bring the arms together of course you can't put them on now that you have bolted the arms together

See bolts I point to in picture.

In heavy rigs like a TS or a jointer the bases may not fit exactly to any pair of bolt holes so those clamps are used usually two per side on only two sides.

    Nice set up BTW.

    Default Great setup.

STB. Great setup. well done for considering spacial issues.
Don't pass them by! Be daring and caring!

Dampen their misery....sit with them and talk a little.

Buy them something to eat and a tram fare to a local mission.
I'm so lucky that I've somewhere to live and have family support.

Thanks for that Bob, I'm not sure they would be strong enough for a heavy machine, don't think I would trust them as they can only be done up finger tight. I would rather drill some additional holes.

I now have all my machinery on mobile bases, plus my main work bench. I would rather them static but we have this thing with an engine and four wheels that gets in the way. The missus refuses to keep it outside for some reason.
