Default Need advice on a table I'm working on

Hi everyone. I'm new to woodworking and to this forum. I am currently working on a table. The table itself is designed to be collapsible and portable. I have designed the top and middle rails to collapse and fit into the center portion of each leg. I have also cut a cross joint for the middle stretcher.

My question is on stability. I realized that once I fit it all up, the rails tend to move on its own. (the wood is not as fitting as I hoped it to be). I did a test piece on using a dowel system to 'lock' the joints in place. Before I start to drill holes and revamp the table. Can I ask if anyone has a better idea for this project?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Could you shim out some of the joints? Perhaps cut a thin strip of timber - maybe even from a contrasting colour - and pack to the joints that are loose?

    Medaman,

it may be too late for this idea. But knock-down tables generally use things called Tusk Tenons (about 3/4 way down the page) the wedge holds things together tightly.

Oh thanks for the chart of joints. Yar it is too late for that. So I'm looking for alternatives now. Thanks for the replies though!
