    Default Aldi

I went looking for the $99 Shop Vac at 10.00am at Aldi. Tried Salisbury and Carindale in Brisbane but both were sold out. Didn't miss by much as I saw 2 going out as I went in.
For anyone interested, they had their Taurus Air Nail Gun Kit at Carindale for $39.99. They were on special there a week or two back at $46.99 so these are obviously reduced to clear left over stock.
I bought one but it doesn't come with nails so I won't be trying it until I have a need and buy some nails. I think other members of the forum have them.
It is a generic model SF5040. Do a search on the internet for more detail as I don't have photo capabilities.
    2 in 1 Nail & Staple Gun
    Nail Length 15-50mm
    Staple Length 16-40mm x 5.7mm wide
    18 Gauge
Carindale had 10 or 12 left at 11.00am this morning but I didn't see any at Salisbury.
Might be of interest to some.

Yep they look good, saw them today in Browns Plains, was almost tempted to buy one as a spare but thought I had better hang off for the wood show on Saturday.

Here, Stateside, Aldi is a grocery store providing only their store brands, I shop frequently for he staple bargains, but some times they have an occasional tool or non food item, Are their brands any good?

I know Aldi is an International company and new to the USA market share, but making grounds to win over (especially "mature" folks and folks of lesser income) folks seaking a bargain.

Bernie: Good to know the GMC vac can last that long. I bought one from a Dahlsen's sale not long ago just because it was cheap and portable thinking that it'll cark it within the year. It's been a little bewdy so far on my router, sanders and even table saw, and good for cleaning up the bench and floor too. It doesn't like the thicknesser much but that's understandable given the size of the "dust" coming out of it.

Although, I was thinking of hitting up an Aldi or somesuch for a more powerful vac for something a little more permanent/fixed for my homemade extractor doobywhacker, so it's good to know they're still flogging off a semi-decent vac for a reasonable price too.

Plus my old man is getting sick of me using his wet'n'dry Vax because pulp doesn't go too well with the carpet

Depends on what you want it for?? Purchased a big plastic tool box of various drill bits something like 100 or so for $28.00 Australian. OK for soft timber but no good for metal, they bend, and probably not worth re-sharpening. Lots of guys use the shop vac as it is way cheaper than some of the big name brands, OK it may not last as long but 3 years is not uncommon for a less than a $100 item. Pretty good value in my mind.

I have heard of bad luck with there own brand of entertainment electrical stuff, here it is TEVION, where people have purchased it gone home plug it in doesn;'t work, you can return for refund or exchange no worries. Suppose it can happen to the best brands as well.

I shop there all the time for the main staples as well.

I've bought a couple of Aldi items.
The food slicer which is just ok and doesn't take much load so it depends what you use it for. Didn't work real well cutting cheeze.
I also bought the Aldi Taurus Drill Press $60. It does what I want and is a rebadged GMC. Has the same manual and phone number for warranty as GMC.
I suspect Aldi probably just rebadge their products. I think there was a thread on the rebadged Aldi Taurus $99 Vacuum Cleaner that was being sold on ebay.
Thanks Bernie for the GMC information. I think I will hold out for the more powerful Aldi next time it comes up unless anyone knows a store in Brisbane where they still have stock.

Aldi are pretty terrible on getting enough stock for their bargains (at least in northern Sydney) - sometimes they only get 2-3 items, sometimes (MOST times) they only send one size of an item to each store - all large or all small etc. and sometimes they just never show up at the store. I've also seem them putting out the bins of stock on Wednesday MORNING for a special that is supposed to start on the Thursday.

My advice is, if you think you really might want something, turn up on Wednesday afternoon about 4pm and just wander around looking. It also helps to ask one of the 'young manager' types as I found they sometimes keep stock 'out the back' rather than put it on display - that's how I got my new laptop.

Same here, you see something advertised in their brochures and when you go to the store, they haven't got the item, been sold out. They must have only stocked 2 or 3 of the item. Nevertheless I have bought a few cheapies over time from them and for the money they are mostly ok.
