I needs to purchase three small items early this week. Between driving to town, parking walking and driving between shops, I was out for over four hours. It would have taken me all of ten minutes online. The only problem was the shipping time, which in this instance I couldn’t afford the wait. If Amazon can sort out shipping they will transform the landscape. I don’t care about lower prices. My big saving is in time.

Read an interesting article on Amazon/Online Shopping today that i think a lot of retailers both large and small should read: Amazon won’t kill Aussie retailers but fast-moving evolution might

While Amazon Aus isn't what the American & UK offering is (yet), the premise is still the same.

Basically, retailers need to acknowledge that the majority of peoples first port of call when looking for something is Google. Most of their product knowledge comes from either Online Reviews, forums such as this, etc.

Gone are the days when someone will drive 40 minutes through Sydney traffic to see if maybe there was someone at a store that knew something about a particular product, hope it was in stock, and pay whatever the ticket price at that store was.

Now, you need to have an online presence, with prices readily available. Also you need to consider having detail on whether items are available for immediate purchase. This is the way the world is moving. With people having less time to spend driving from store to store, if you want to keep the doors open, you need a decent online proposition...
