    Default Aust Red Cedar boxes

I had a little false start when I posted these images and they were all sideways. Hopefully I sorted it out. Mostly now I choose very particular jobs to do, mostly love jobs. These were some memorial boxes I made recently for a friend and two daughters. Totally handmade. They are simple compound mitre boxes, one with a lid carved with a Fleur de lis, the Scout symbol, the other two inspired by Kenji Miyazawa's poem 'Strong in the Rain' - "He lives in a thatch roofed hut...", inspired by a thatched hut in a Japanese rice field. I made a variable angle compound mitre shooting board to make these corners a no brainer. The rebates for the bases were cut with a plough plane. The thatched roof effect was created by a toothing plane I typically use prior to hammer veneering. (actually they were not all handmade, the marks on the sides of the Fleur de lis box were left over from bandsaw marks. I had made four sides to test the shooting board, but I liked the bandsaw marks on it so much I created one box from it)
