Yes in hindsight the Metabo system would only work with shop vacs not dust extractors. Sorry for the misdirection.

The VCCU from ABG looks interesting, Not sure how it works with multiple tools and one DC? I just decided a fully automated system was too difficult and expensive to work out.

I use the remote control module from ABG, NCArcher originally helped me. I have the NVR switch on the DC clamped/pressed into the on position. It's plugged into the module and the remote starts and stops it.
It's not automatic, but it's two clicks - Press remote on, press tool on - press tool off, press remote off. Spending hundreds/thousands rigging up an automatic system and undoubtedly having to troubleshoot and maintain it...the remote is an easy winner for my home workshop use.

Thats exactly what I did with my DC, then bought a remote control power board from Bunnings, works well. of course i still have to open and close blast gates, but much more convenient to use.

    Hi George,

What powerboard did you buy from Bunnings?.

If it’s one of the Arlec type 10A remote switching units, it will last about 12 months. The high inrush current on switch-on will cause the unit to fail at that time. I’ve had three different brands and they all go the same way, even on my Shopvac unit.
    I couldn’t find a 15A unit.
I’ll have a look at the ones that Banjobeast put up - looks good for what I want.

    Additional.
Price is now $35 and Shipping price $27.95!! Need to spend $99 to get free Prime shipping.

That's exactly why I use one of those to switch a contactor that powers my DC - so the contactor is handling the inrush current of the DC.

Just to be double sure that the Toggle switch is fully compatible before I purchase it I sent Carbatec
    a message asking:

Will the Carbatec Toggle Switch - Short Lever Style (Code: SWT-J9301A) and Replacement Switch Plate (Code: SWT-PLATE) fit and work on my Portable Dust Collector - 2HP (CodeC-1200P)?

The reply from Carbatec was as follows:

No, it is incompatible with the DC-1200P, the correct switch is out of stock. If you require something ASAP, I would recommend taking the current switch to an electrical wholesaler.

    My Reply to that:

I think there may be some confusion, I don't want a replacement of my NVR switch. I want to convert it to a toggle switch as demonstrated by Dave Stanton from Carbatec, please see his video below:

Dust extractor switch conversion remote control Dave Stanton easy woodworking - YouTube

Can you now please tell me if this switch will in fact be compatible with the DC1200?. If not, why?.

Does anyone see any reason why the switch wouldn't be compatible as its the exact same connectors and faceplate?.... No reply from Carbatec as of yet....

    Hi Eagerbeaver

The remote control switch i used is just an arlec switch, the dust collector replacement switch from carbatec is the one you mentioned above, my DC is the same 2HP unit. I think the advice you got from Carbatec is not strickly correct. They may think you want an NVR replacement.

I'd say there's virtually no chance that Carbatec are going to advise you to fit a non-standard switch to any of their machines. Particularly a switch that removes a safety feature from the machine. They would be very brave to do so.

And I don't think David Stanton is representing Carbatec in his videos.

I can't think of any reason to have a safety feature like that on a DC, other machinery like table saw - planer - thicknesser, hell yes but not a dust collector.

Totally agree. But the fact is they HAVE fitted it and I can't see someone at Carbatec head office giving you carte blanche to remove it.

Personally, I would ditch the NVR and fit the Carbatec toggle switch as per the David Stanton video.

    I received this from them:

    Hi Sam,

An electrician is required to do the installation and make the final assessment if it is suitable electrically and more importantly electrically safe and compliant with your states laws regulations. This is mentioned in the video to show your electrician and also in the parts listing to have it installed by a licensed electrician.

(It should also be noted that Dave has a different model with a smaller motor).

Circuit Electrical | Servicing Melbourne Metropolitan Area and Northern Country Is based in _____ and they could give you a hand and determine a suitable toggle switch.

What would the size of the motor have to do with it I wonder?. I'm leaning towards just doing myself. I've built PC's and other electrical devices so I can't see how difficult this can be, just a matter of getting the correct wiring plugged into the toggle switch right?.

Is there a way round this?, where by switching the DC on can be done via the wall socket?.

I use remote power switches to power up my dusty, my table saw, my compressor and my shop vac. Cheap and simple.

The remote is on a lanyard around my neck, so it is always handy.

Needed a relay for the Clearvue dusty, details are here ... Clear Vue installation
