Awesome Innovation!!
Check this out!
Truly amazing blend of computer & tool technology.
From the product description:
"world’s first hand-held CNC machine. This compact, powerful tool is as intuitive as it is innovative, letting you plug in and immediately create with ease, control, and confidence"
To launch in USA first (of course).

At this price it's still cheaper than a cnc machine that Carbatec have.

I'd be interested to know what the motor power is. Only takes 1/4" bits, so I can't imagine it'd have much guts.

I reckon it is just a trim router spindle. Those things have enough grunt to plow a 1/4" bit through MDF. But since you are technically freehanding, you will need to go slow anyways. I do worry about needing to do stepped cuts to achieve full depth. 1/4" upcut spiral cutting 4X diameter to cut through 25mm MDF in one pass "while freehanding" is likely to snap the bit which gets expensive fast.
I reckon it is a very good idea/device if you are a small time shopfitter that is doing one off pieces which involve lots of curves or shapes.

If you were making a lot of those sorts of things I linked too it would be a cheap way to get yourself a large scale CNC router without having to spend $500k + have 6x8meter shop space available. And you will save lots of time by not having to make routing jigs, or having a terribad finish via a jigsaw.

What type of woodworker is the target audience?

Me!
I could have used it this arvo to create a routing template out of MDF. But I had to do it the way they did it back in the stoneage via marking out with a pencil using dimensions from my CAD drawing. then freehanding the straight cuts on the panelsaw and then doing the curved cuts with the bandsaw and file to finish smooth it. I hate living in the stoneage!

I wonder if it passes the drop test from a ladder? Great innovation but the price is about $1000 to much. Apparently the router has been around for some years but not yet sold according to some comments in other forums.

I thought the dust port looked suspiciously Festool-esque. Imagine the price if Festool was making them though, they already want $1500 for a normal router...
