Default Bangood dowel jig - outstanding!

My high end dowel jig journey started with the Dowelmax and despite its accuracy and build quality, I found having to reconfigure the jig when changing from an edge/edge joint to a face/edge joint to a mid panel joint became a bit annoying when having to do that regularly. A mate brought around a Jessem jig which solved that problem and was better for long edge/edge joints through its front slots. I was so impressed that I was just about to order one and my lovely family bought me a Domino for my birthday. This, for me is the ultimate joinery system but sometimes all you need is a quick dowel joint without the need to get the Domino out and assembled.

So I thought I'd buy a cheaper dowel jig and found this ( Wnew Self Centering Dowelling Jig - Shop on Banggood - YouTube ) on Bangood after seeing a favourable review on Youtube. The build quality and tolerances of the bushes and index pins are way above expectations and after doing a few practice joints, which turned out perfect, I was impressed enough to say that this rivals the Jessem jig for functionality and performance with the added feature of being able to dial the jig to provide exact or almost exact centred dowels. Not important to me but nice to have if needed. I whipped up a quick storage box using kaizen foam and you can see what came with the kit. I also had an extra set of drill bits. BTW its impossible to find a metric version of the Jessem jig other than Jessem's web site and I don't think they ship to Australia. Their new stainless steel versions are only in imperial and still expensive.

Anyway I thought the quality was so high and the price reasonable that I'd report it here and no I don't have a vested interest for all you cynics out there!!

Nice. I picked up some discarded wood from the footpath today so was only just thinking, how to align dowels in two pieces of wood joined at right-angles... Your link led to me watching another video where 3x different dowel jigs are compared: The most accurate Doweling Jig, China Tools Ep.49 - YouTube - so that's another tool I can mark off my list. ;-)

    Good work!

I found their provided dowels weren't that consistently accurate. Some were too tight and some too loose. Anyway a trip to Bunnings fixed that! You may get a better batch.
