U-Beaut Water Dyes
I am going to make some name signs on the scroll saw to hang on the kids doors. Im going to cut them out on some 6mm MDF I have spare.
Will the water dyes work ok on MDF or would it swell too much?
Will the colour come out ok on straight MDF, or should I look at putting a white base coat on first?Brett

Try them out on a test piece first, oges. I've not used the dyes on mdf but if too much dye is applied, yes, the mdf could swell. coating the mdf first wouldn't be a good idea, imho, as it would stop the dye getting into the mdf (I think).
yeah, definitely something to try on a test piece first.
cheers

Thanks Wendy, yeah I figured I would do some testing over the weekend and start out with a 4:1 ratio and see how it goes.

Well got them done today and this is the result, this is at a ratio of 4:1 water to dye.
Did some name signs for the kids, the SarahJane done in Twilight font and Jack done in Ben10 font.
Also made the Come In/Go Away Ambigram sign for Sarah, she is 12 so im guessing it will be set at Go Away most of the timeBrett

Nice work. I particularly like the ambigram. Great design.
Dumb question (I'm not a scroll saw user obviously), but how do you transfer the design onto the wood?
