    Default Bedside Tables

My wife wants me to build a set of bedside tables but our bed has drawers along the sides so the side tables would need to be 3 legged so the drawers can be opened. I don't really want to attach them to the bed as we're getting on a bit and it makes it difficult to make the bed. There's about a 10mm gap between the drawer and the carpet, I was thinking about making a square base that the drawer goes over and having 3 legs attached to the base but I'm not sure how stable that would be and I have a feeling it might look silly. Only other option I can think of is 3 legs and attach it to the wall but I didn't really want to do that.

Anybody seen any side table designs for beds with drawers?

Hopefully this makes sense, it's a little hard to describe what I want.

Sounds like a challenge! Could you raise the bed base up by putting some nice looking timber packers under it all the way around or just under the feet - giving you a bit more height to work with? Then that would allow for a thicker base for the bedside cabinets to sit on, solid base solid back and maybe even solid outer piece (away from the bed). Or make a steel base (painted) and place cabinets on that?? Just thinking on the fly....

Maybe a "C" shape base made from bent laminations like ply wood? Otherwise always the option wall mounting - lot of bathroom vanities done that way these days.

Sorry for posting this question in the wood turning forum. Thanks for the suggestions. I had a thought last night, I might try a hinged 4th leg that can be moved out of the way when we need to open the bed drawers.

    Hi John

what will the side tables be used for?
reading glasses and bed time reading?
cup of coffee in the morning?
    reading lamp?
    alarm clock?
    etc.

Can I suggest you look at the design of 4 legged end tables and lamp stands

no drawer and single drawer designs are light and easily moved when you want to access the drawers or make the bed.

    some ideas
