Bench Hook
Just a beginner enjoying woodwork and having fun so I thought I would post a couple of pics of a bench hook I built recently and I'm not sure if this is upload is going to work as it has been a long time since last post.
I am starting to build some jigs (table sled mitre & right angle sleds and shooting board etc) as I want to build some furniture.
Cheers
Graeme

Very pretty, especially for a utilitarian bench hook What is the timber?
Just make sure you don't spend all your time making jigs out of the best materials or you'll never start building the furniture!
My jigs are usually made as required out of a bits of MDF and scrap pine, then often discarded as being too ugly to keep...

Yep I know it is certainly time consuming building jigs I have only one to go so as I can get started on a bed side table and then I will progress as required with the jigs.
The Timber is African Mahogany

African Mahogany is nice and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time a number of years ago so I bought a chainsaw and slabbing mill and slabbed some up. Hard work though.

Nice hook, now you need to make the other one, one is ok for short stock but if it's longer a second to support the other end is a must or you are either working on an angle or you have to support the other end with scrap or the like, which always jumps out after a few passes with the saw.

That is a fine idea. I will put it on my to do list and will probably build it next time a job requires it.
