Default Which Bit For 20mm - 16mm Holes on Drill Press

Hi, Which drill bit would be better suited for clean 20mm holes in 20mm thick Tassie Oak wood. Here's a a rough picture of what I'm trying to do:

The wood is 20mm thick x 42mm wide.

    Hi sheeny71,
The best drill to do what you want here would be a forstner bit but you will need to use a wider board so you have a centre to locate the drill. It will be a lot more difficult to drill a clean hole if not, you can use a piece of scrap the same thickness clamped together on the centre line or a wider board then sawn down the centre to achieve the same result. But either way you should get a nice clean hole with a sharp forstner better than any thing else where you would get a course edge to the hole.
    Regards Rod.

You could also use a router with a ball end bit. Would take some time setting up the fence but you would get a nice straight channel.

    Have fun.
