    Default BLUM hinges in Melbourne

    Dear Woodies,

This is a great forum and a rich source of information especially for a new-to-wood like me. Keep up the good work.

I am trying to fix the kitchen cabinet doors, few of them are out of sync. The panels are in good condition, so replacing existing hinges should do the trick. Most of them are full overlay 110 & 170 degrees. I am thinking of using BLUM.

Can someone pl tell me where in Melbourne I can buy BLUM hinges.

    cheers

Ajax, you refer to your cupboard doors as being "out of sync".

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I caution you about jumping to the wrong conclusion as to the solution.

If you mean the doors appear to hang out of vertical and therefore do not align correctly to the cabinet or adjacent door, this may not be, and most likely isn't caused by wonky hinges.

The most likely cause is incorrectly installed cabinets. If the installer didn't take care to square the cabinets by shimming, then the cabinet takes on the alignment caused by the surface on which they are mounted. Modular kitchen cabinets are made square in the shop. They are installed on floors and hung on walls that are anything but level and square. A good installer compensates for this with shims to artificially create the level and square conditions these cabinets require. Failure to do so results in "racking" which is the most common cause of doors that don't fit properly.

    Just a suggestion!

    DPB,

Thanks for that. My apologies for insufficient info. You are right there - What I mean by out of sync is doors out of plumb. The cabinets are square. Most of the doors are ok as well, only 4 odd ones. The kitchen itself is about 6-8 years old (anybody's guess).

    hope that helps
