    Default Bolt/screw for modular boxes

    Hello all,

I am looking at making a drawer system for my 4x4 out of 12mm ply. After thinking about what I want I realised that there are different configurations that I would use depending on the circumstance so i thought - hey i'll make it modular. This would consist of a bottom drawer fixed to the floor with bolts, etc. Then I was hoping to have 4 holes in the top to be able to bolt on the corresponding holes next section, either a drawer or shelf or fridge slide, etc. that hopefully i'll be able top undo by hand. stand 2 or 3 of these up and you have a modular drawer/shelf system.

My requirements are something that is strong, no or little movement (these will be driven over some bumpy ground) and preferably able to be undone by hand.

It think I have 4 options, but don't know what the bits are called or if they exist. These are, from most to least preferred

    1. Have a t-shaped 'key' that goes in from the top and locks them together when rotated. It is turned by a ring/handle that can fold flat into a recess. (image a wing nut where the wings fold flat..net even sure if these exist) (kinda like the image below)
    2. Similar to above, but instead of a T/key shaped, it is a standard bolt thread with ring/foldable 'wings'. The below wood has those metal threaded inserts
    3. Standard bolt with threaded insert
    4. Standard bolt and nut

Can anyone help with what might work best, and what things are called?

Also as a second question, what is the best place to get 800-900mm drawer slides that can take a bit of weight (40 or 60kg) and can lock open?

    Thanks!

Try Galvins for draw slides, I got some heavy duty ones there very cheap, not locking though. Have never had a need for them to lock open though.

Don't know about the bols though

Try a Google search for Zeus or Dzus Fastners. I think they are what you are after. There are many sizes and types available.
