borers in old cricket bats
Hi guys,
I rescued a couple of old cricket bats my mum was going to throw out. One I fear is beyond help but the other will be ok...
My question is... What can I do to 'nail' the wood borers without affecting the bat?
Do give it a healthy dose of Linseed oil? The 'good' one is from the 20's-30's era (Bill Woodfull bat) and the bad is a Neil Harvey from the 50's I dare say.
I'll try to display it along with some of the bats I used to play with. Any Ideas with this as well.... ?

Borer treatment
rustynail has hit it on the head (every pun intended).
A standard DAFF treatment for timber with borer activity is maintaining a core temp. of -18 degrees Celsius for a period of seven days.
whilst that's not easy at home, wrapping the bat in plastic (bin liner or the like) and leaving in a domestic freezer for two to three weeks should kill the little blighters, while not damaging the bat.
best of luck!Greatest Movie Quote Ever: "Its good to be the king!"____________________________

you could also use a gardening technique they use on trees with borers... it attacks the larvae....u poke a length of wire down the hole...if its wet on return,, bingo! i would be a little cautious about putting the bat in the freezer in case it splits......probably unlikely, but if theres moisture in there, i dunno
