Default I bought a thicknesser direct from China!

I hunted here for information on buying stuff, but I couldn't find much, so now I can add to the information!

And I made up a video on it. Since I like videos

But for those who don't want to watch in more details, it was about $2000AUD including freight to Australia, and what seems likes the Carbatec model (seems like a clone for what I could see), the same model was $3200. The import charges killed the margin though, still love the machine though.

    Welldone.

Over the years we have imported many products out of China (container loads), and it is always easier if you have a trusted contact on the ground there.

I must admit that it has been on my mind to source a Powermatic clone for sometime, and this post may just have fueled this.

Did you use a freight forwarder or broker? Also, which Alibaba supplier did you get it off?

Cava - if you are going to do a group buy I might be interested depending on products

(I have organized multiple group buys in the photography community and have been awesome way of getting discounts)

I'm not sure what the people I used are, but this is them:
    Galaxy Global Logistics

For the machinery itself, it was from these guys:
    https://chinajinteng.en.alibaba.com/...fc263e5fSJJycB

I can't fault the build quality of the machines, I haven't had a chance to flog it properly yet, but everything feels solid and strong.

All their machines seem to be 115V & 60Hz

    What did you get?
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

    Cheers

Group buys for larger and more expensive items are typically fraught with problems for overseas purchases, which is a situation I tend to stay away from.

That stated, anyone know where Powermatic gets it's products made?

This may not be helpful but I am sure it is the same manufacturer who supplies Jet, they are both part of the same group.

Any idea how much the SCM and Felder are? I always wonder how the commercial workers flatten entire slabs, using a router cant be commercially feasible

I spoke to a guy down near where I work in Hastings who is retiring, he was using a drum sander which was good for 1.4m wide. Another guy in dandenong was also using a drum sander, was huge - he said it cost him 50,000. It looked like a Jet (by the paint job) but im not certain.

Interesting. I wonder if they’d sell me some infeed/outfeed tables for my 15” thickie. Absolutely hate the rollers it currently has.

There is an Aust made slab flattener that works like a router. It uses (IIRC) an 8" cutter and then the cutter is replaced with a sanding disc to finish it off.

Have seen it demoed at the WWW show.

I think I know the person you are referring to, if it is he has been trying to retire for a few years - he even tried to sell me his business 4(?) years ago for an absolute motza.

The punchline is that you may be able to pick up the drum sander, and other bits and pieces, cheapish if he does retire soon. Keep an eye out!
