    Default The Brisbane Wood Show

Yesterday (Saturday) I went to the Wood Show. Great fun. I went with the intention of not buying anything and I didn't apart from 8 carving chisels, a saw file and saw. So that was good.

I have been going for many years and my impression was that there was more exhibitors and more people than last year.

Roaming around aimlessly for a few hours talking to people, watching displays and demonstrations, and looking at tools and timber is always fun. But yesterday was even better for 2 reasons. There was a chap there who makes guitars out of old tins and odd bits of scrap. He was talking and singing and playing which was great by itself. But he organised and impromptu little concert with and man from another stall. They wanted somebody to bang a few music sticks together for a bit of rhythm. Since nobody else in the crowd seemed to want to do it and since neither experience or ability was required, I found myself banging away randomly with two proper musicians. Great fun.

Then I did an hour on the Wood Forum stall. If you have never done a stint on the stall you should. Great fun. You will meet good people, have a chat and cup of coffee. If you are a bit tired from aimless wandering there are chairs.

Anyway I went home a happy little boy.

Great to hear that you had a great time at the show.

One of the best feeling is to be at ease when in the public eye. I might guess whom the musician was but not good to guess so I will leave that to others to confirm.

Stan is a bit of a character. He was worth the day out by himself.

Great to hear that you enjoyed it, but I'm wondering if we've been going to the same show.

I flew back from Perth to be able to spend all day there on Friday. I haven't been for about four years and I must admit that, although I still had a good (much shorter) day, I was disappointed that it seemed about half the size of the last one that I'd been to.

However, having said that, those that went to the trouble of setting up and attending were terrific and I must still congratulate them on a great show. Quality over quantity I guess.

It was, at first, great to see the school kids there on Friday. However quickly there were so many that access to some displays was monopolised and available chairs were few and far between and space to sit down for a cup of tea and some lunch was non existent, which resulted in me leaving after only about 2 1/2 hours and a bit of discussion in the car park indicated there were a few others leaving early for much the same reason.

I would have to agree with Larks. I have been going for several years and it has definitely gotten much smaller which does disappoint me. There used to be many stalls outside with the timber slabs but nothing this year. I'm sure the organisers will agree and are trying to get better results.

    Yes I agree.

The day Stan no longer attends the shows will be a sad day indeed
