I've been informed that I'm not allowed to build my own coffin....
....Apparently I have waaay too many other woodwork projects to do before that...

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

"Rudimentary Irish"! From someone who is more sheep than human!

    Anyway, I've got a dog who's adept at back-filling.

I think ur on the right track, though you could probably just be cremated in a wheelie bin. Shredded plastic from drums does get used as feedstock for industrial furnaces so no problem there. Other bonuses no leakage so there is a tick right there. Easy to maneuver for the pall bearers another tick. Flies might be a problem though if you are not collected for a couple of days.

One thing I am not is sheepish!
I went to NZ in '69 to play football and they hardly showed any interest at all

Did you try the glue factory?
That would be a more fitting end.

No, but the missus has bought an exceedingly large stasinless vat and gas ring... Place your orders in plenty of time!

The poor fellow seems quite delusional. He believes in half man - half beast! Don't even start him on der little people! I dont think he would be capable of sticking to anything.

    Default I got mine

My daughter a few years back while doing year 12 made it for us a bit short but by beheading me and chopping of my legs someone could put me in. She was told she could not make a coffin but a coffin-table was OK . It currently is stored in the middle of our lounge room

    Default Your Own Coffin

At the funeral parlour I was gobsmacked at the size, shape, colour of the coffins available. Some looked like space ships, others so extravagant that I nearly wet myself when the price was mentioned. So much beautiful gold and and timber being burnt or buried? My father-in-law settled for a solid blackwood number that was less ostentatious than the other vessels I viewed.

Upon returning home I Googled how to build your own coffin.

And to that end I have resolved at the ripe old age of 47 to build my own plywood number which will ultimately be flamed with high temperature gas. My ashes will then be buried in the compost because it is my wish that I put back a small amount of myself for which I have taken from the earth over my lifetime.

Anyone else have the same thoughts?
What a good idea and one which I am following! I have nearly finished my own box in order to save my family much expense when I croak;. Am now 75 so must get ready for my final event! Rev Bill.

I like the humour in this one. Perhaps it's because I'm making my own box. I'm 75 now so heaven knows how much time is left for yours truly. All the best for 2013! G4CWA.

A more environmentally friendly burial might be to place the corpse in a bio-degradable, recycled paper sack and stuff it into a hole bored with a tractor-mounted auger, which method, itself, would save on diminishing funereal-approved land.
As an ex electricity industry worker with access to pole boring machines with large augers, I often use to threaten my late F-I-L to bury him this way in the back yard - that was a given. The thing that used to get to him was the threat of being buried head first or feet first in the hole, depending on how well he treated us
    regards,

    Dengy

I recently buried my brother and was also shocked at the prices of coffins. You may want to check out your local ordinances to make sure you are in compliance.

    After reading the above ......

These are only my thoughts ...... But may be there are forum members that would find all these posts a bit hard going for obvious reasons and would not even reply to it but move away from it quickly, and it may be even possible they may not come back to the forum at all at a time when we could support them.
I have also added to the input of these posts in hindsight I now regret it a little and will try to remove me little bit. No offense to all you good people.
