Default anyone built a BI-Fold door at all before??

i just renovated my dining area into an open space dining area, in the design it has 3 sets of 3 leaf bi fold doors, before that was thinking of just buy 3 sets of them then i realize it's way too expensive to just buy it, good quality 3 leafs jarrah bi fold door can chases up to $3.5-4.5k each! since i'd done quite a numbers of furnitures and cabinets before, i do understand how to build the door, but in terms of details there are a lot more to research. now here's the headache part, i realize there are 2 major brand of the bi fold door system been widely used in australia which is the Centor, and Brio. i call both the manufacture and the retailers, no good information or friendly service. i would like to know anyone has came across purchased these products? the hardware system? any help would be appreciated!!!

    Hi Jovian,
I did the joinery on a house several years ago that was about 80m of bi-fold doors and windows they were every where all out of new guinea rosewood and using Centor system what do you need to know. I found only a couple of days ago a few set's new in their box's I was unpacking stuff that's been in storage for years they should have some details in the box. They were a very good system to use as I recall if you are anywhere near salt air only use the stainless set's not the alli one's.
    Regards Rod.

I looked into buying bi-fold hardware, from memory I had sourced it from access hardware, looks like they have stores along the east coast, not sure about WA tho.

I did a couple of sets years ago in the UK, and a set recently using cheap hollow doors and the Courdroy kit linked above. None of them are particularly hard - you just need to think carefully about how all the bits work together, and how the doors and the door edges need to be shaped to make it all work.

One thing to make sure of: everything needs to be absolutely square and level, and needs to be stable or the doors will jam at some point in the future.
    Cheers, Richard

    Hi Jovian,
I use the Brio Hardware simply because that is what I started using.
I find the Brio website calculators make working out the parts and door sizes nice and easy. Our can get it though Lincoln Sentry. Be sitting down when you get the price.

    Default Go the centor

We spec the Centor system all the time at work. Look at the weight ratings per panel if you are using jarrah etc... look up the kg per m2 on the pilkington site for your glass, min of 4mm toughened. Cheep sets just don't handle that sort of kgs. As mentioned before, then sit down take a bex and wait for the price. I'm just about to use the Centor system with the built in screens at home. I need to use hard wood for the fire rating and double glazed for section J of the BCA, this limits the width of each panel and the number of panels in each direction. Have a look at the trend windows site, pdfs of how the centor system goes together with their doors and windows. Should give you a good idea.
