What should I do with this burl?
I have the burl in the photos. I was going to make a wall clock out of it. However it is heavy and I'm worried if its too heavy to put on a wall.
I could route out the back of it to reduce mass although that seems like a waste.
Its 50mm thick. My wife suggests that I get it cut into two about 22mm thick and make 2 live edge serving trays.
What do you guys think I should do with it?

Hi Mate
Blast the bark off with a HP water cleaner.
Buy yourself an Arbortec Industrial carver and free form shape the burl then sand it, they look great

If I did find someone to cut the 50mm thickness in two halves of about 22mm, would they stay flat enough for serving trays or are they likely to warp?
A say 22mm because by the time it was bandsawn in half and sanded flat I'm guessing they'd be 22mm or probably even less.

Turn a platter out of it. It would look amazing.

Because of the size of the burl I agree with Willy that it would be best to carve it. Either by power or more traditional method by hand, just be aware that it will take a long time by hand tools.

Hey Mate
Incredibly easy with the Arbortec Industrial carver. I reckon I have done nearly 1,000 burls by now.
I would recommend you slicing to 22mm.
I would suggest you carve some of the base away to make a smaller bottom, we prefer a smaller bottom, right?
Then hollow out the internal, sand all the machined edges, they really are that easy, check out the Arbortec website or Youtube
Good luck
