Where to buy 1/2" (NOT 12mm) MDF in Melbourne
Hi,
I've been trying to source a large (or various small) sheets of 1/2" MDF to no avail, so i was hoping someone here knows of a place which stocks it in Melbourne.
I've tried Bunnings and Mitre10 so far, and really don't know of any other place that would stock this.
12mm is not an option as I've a set of CNC router plans that are made from 1/2" MDF and redesigning it is not an option as the files are locked.
Any help would be much appreciated.
P.S 1/2" is 12.7mm.
Thanks,
Bismar

If you cannot find 1/2 inch MDF, would it be possible to put a 0.7mm backing sheet behind the 12mm MDF to raise it to the right height for your CNC router?
Cheers
Graeme
PS: Have you checked that 12mm is actually 12mm and not 1/2inch MDF rebadged?

You could in fact apply some veneer....and arrive at your required dimension, or you could make some adjustments to the plans manually. Otherwise ask a board manufacturer to supply 1/2 sheets, which they will. You just have to look farther afield than Bunnings.
The only time I purchased 1/2" MDF in North America it measured out to 12.0 mm.
Reminds me of trying to find a metric round-over bit which I finally found. The package arrived sporting a 6.35 mm (1/4" translated) label.

There may be unlocking software available for the CAD files - but yes, the half inch may in fact be 12mm (shhhh...the US uses a lot of metric sizes they just don't admit it!)

Do you know the actual thickness of 3, 4, and 6mm MDF? You might be able to laminate to 12mm
