Best place to buy 3/4" gal pipe
Hi all,
I have a bunch of pipe clamp mechanisms in my shed ready for use but Im not sure where the best place to purchase the 3/4" galvanised pipe is. Would anyone have any recommendations as to where I can purchase these at a good price? I have been to Bunnings and all of their gal pipes are crazy expensive to where its not worth it. I live in East Melbourne, so any recommendations for stores around the area would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Ty

try Reece or plumbing supply stores. Suggest you look to black steel rather than gale as the gale comes of and can cause the clamp to slip. regards John

Hi Ty
Although most use gal pipe the gal increases the diameter is softer and can come of clogging the locking mechanism. They are actually designed for black pipe.
When cleaned black pipe is used they operate much better.
I purchased a length of medium black from a steel merchant and they cut it to length for me.
Black pipe comes in light, medium, heavy and steam the outside dimension remains the same as the wall thickness increases.
Light being good for short lengths but flexes too much when long
Took it home cleaned it up and bronze welded some brass thread on the end (couldn't find anyone to thread it for me)
Cheers

I got mine from a mining pipe and flange supplier $50 for a 6m length.
I bought two lengths and made up 2 x 3m, 2 x 2m and 2 x 1m lengths.
Then you will need to get one end threaded.
Luckily I have the dies to do that otherwise a plumbing supplier should be able to do that for you.

These guys don't appear to be too far from you and they cut to length by the look of their website. Just the threading on the end might be a problem but if you know a Plumber or Engineering friend they could do it for you.
Another option is Liberty Onesteel Metalcentre in Scoresby.

Bunnings for shorter lengths, threaded at both ends.
