only for bigger jobs, only from a reputable dealer and only for pretty standard grade timber - ie not featured timber etc.

I'm worried about shipping, particularly about loss or damage.
I've thought about some of the "packs" you've posted over the last few weeks. Your continual presence in the forum makes me think you won't misrepresent the quality, but the risk (and cost?) involved in shipping stops me buying.

Yes, no trouble, so long as......
Good pictures and clear descriptions are essential. If the timber is what was stated, not a problem. More often than not, I will buy from them again - over the internet. If not, no more $ from me.
cheers

Timber on line
The freight cost for larger pieces would be a concern. Smaller pieces, say DAR, to make up a small box would be more to my liking.

Steve
The two biggest issues for me are
shipping costs or possible damage – especially with longer thin boards (it shouldn't be an issue with box packs)
sufficient trust that I'll get what I expect

I don't like the idea. But if the price is too great, like studley rejected packs, then I would consider.

For most one of buys I like to select what I want.
As wongo said studleys pack buys are good but you still dont know how good till it gets to you.

Seem to go with the flow on this one and like to pick my own sticks.
Although having said that, possibly I would spend a lot less if ordered over the internet because I won't get to see those "MUST HAVE" pieces squirreled away in a dark corner.
Cheers

I really have no choice. I have established relationships with 2 suppliers via this forum whom I now trust. my only other option is 100km round trip that stocks some hardwood but the range is very limited and the prices are exhorbitant. I can buy excellent timber from Sydney, freight included I still save around 40%.
PS: Did you get my PMCheers,

Nothing beats fondling and turning over the stock and then pulling 20 other boards out to see if any are better than the one you've already picked, but that can take ages
If it were a trusted supplier:
• and even went to the trouble of emailing some pics of the timber selected;
• could guarantee no damage en route; and
• cost of freight was competitive
then maybe.

I do buy smaller quantites.
Prices directly listed for common D.A.R sizes is a handy thing.
