with the australian dollar nearing parity against the us dollar are we going to see a dramatic price reduction in tools and machinery here in Australia, similar to the immediate price hike we were slugged when the dollar went down? or doesn,t it work that way,...........bob

The Lie Nielsen website in Oz has an announcement that prices have been reduced due to favourable exchange rates. Since both the U.S. and Australian sites have on-line shopping so it's pretty easy to add GST & shipping costs to decide if the local pricing is fair. It would not be good business for them to show a disparity.

well i have just compared sites. the australian lie nelson site quotes a price of $258 to ship a 60 1/2 block plane.
the usa site quotes $165 for the plane, so if you include say $40 for shipping thats $205 usa dollars which is $210 aus. thats a minimum of $40 save
i would rather rely on UPS trackable mail, rather than australia post any day.
boy if that is there new price i would hate to see there old!!!

You might find that the real cost of your USD from our beloved banks is a bit more than what you read in the paper. It's your choice, of course, but I would sooner enjoy the protection of our consumer laws than a place where you are classified as a non-resident alien. This is not a reflection on our American mates BTW.

actually emailed the australian lie nelson site, about a week ago--still waiting to hear back from them.
i am going through the lie nelson USA site, saving a heap and it will be here in 3 days.
i have found that you never have issues with reputable american companies with good warrantys like lie nelson, if there is a problem they are only to happy to repair (usually replace) the problem. even if you are classified as a non-resident alien
highland woodworking store also offfer a premium online service for those wanting to buy stuff cheap and promptly from the usa
