Buying Wattyl FRS (fade resisting stain) in bulk-where too??
Hello.
Been doing woodwork and furniture restoration for well over twenty years,I had business selling woodwork full time,up until ten years ago.
I still did woodwork for myself. The consumables from the business back then kept me going,I recently went back to markets with some woodwork,I used the last of mu consumables.
I now want to do more to sell. But went to hardware shops to buy more consumables and was very shocked the price was such -it simply was
not worth buying consumables to make stock and sell
My main consumables are WATTYL FRS stain in TEAK I use to buy this in 4 litre tins,I can now only see it in 500 mm tins at $44 per tin (I paid that 25 years ago for 4 L tins)
I also use FEAST WATSON satin finish now $40 per litre.
I also use WATTYL DANISH WAX ( a litre lasts me 10 years),but my can is now empty and no idea where to buy,
If anyone can please point me in the right direction to buy these consumables at a some what reasonable price.
I also use sand paper a forum member gave me this link
The Sandpaper Man
Just wondering the price given must be per metre?and you times that by 50 or
however many metrs in roll??
Anyhow-Really wonder if woodworking is at all worth the outlay, does anyone ever really ever make any money from woodwork
Thanks for any help-especially with FRS and estapol, maybe there are similar products at a better price.

Times have changed and so have the prices I would love to be paying what I paid 20 years ago for items, try contacting Wattyl and see if they have it commercial sizes, the intial cost will be higher but over time the saving will be realized

FRS, & associated items
Suggest you check out the Wattyl Australia Website, ( www.wattyl.com.au ), then email the company direct from the website. I think they also have a Customer Service Number, which you can also ring, ( Freecall ), and pick their brains. Same applies to Feast Watson Products, simply hop onto their website, then either email them, or use their Customer Service Phone Number, and pick their brains. *** Helpful hint,- ask for Trade Prices,- especially if you have an ABN. Trade is about 50% below retail, and for anyone buying in bulk, that makes a heck of a difference to the hip pocket
Sandpaper, or ANY Abrasive Product,- seek out a major wholesaler / distributor,- Simply look up the Yellow Pages on the net. I normally go to an Adelaide Company called, Abrasive Products, ( they have branches in most Australian States ), and an excellent informative website. Bought an 80 metre x 115mm. wide roll of 80 grit No-fil abrasive paper from their Adelaide Warehouse, ( Athol Park ), about two years ago for, ( don't faint with shock ), the Princely sum of, - FIFTY DOLLARS, along with several dozen 127mm. Dia. x 22mm.centre, angle-grinder Cut-off Wheels, ( Flexovit Industrial ), for $1.75. ea. inc GST. Same savings apply to Sandpaper sheets,- one simply don't buy half-a-dozen sheets,- You buy the whole 50 sheet packet, then one gets it at half retail price, ( or even less ). Which makes a huge difference especially when one is using heaps of the stuff.
The Sandpaper Man, is OK for specialist products, & the local hardware is OK for smaller quanities, for the average woodie; chippie, but when one is gunna use heaps on projects,- save the Dollars and buy in bulk whenever practical.

re consumables
Thanks very much Roger!
I do have an ABN I will contact Watyll and Feast direct.
That will certain help, get any sort of discount on their products.
Those prices at the hardware shop these days-there is no possible way I''d make any money at the markets with woodwork.Even getting the timber for free.
