    Default Some Canadian woodworking

We're on holiday in Banff. Had a look at the Parks Canada Museum yesterday. Not particularly fascinating as a museum, but as a wooden building, it was rather smart...20240127_142238.jpg 20240127_142423.jpg 20240127_142433.jpg 20240127_142629.jpg20240127_143124.jpg20240127_143845.jpg20240127_143848.jpg

    Certainly looks like craftsmanship woodworking
Some big timber pieces by the looks.

The photos portray a scene from a trophy hunters showcase

Yup - not a trophy hunter, but the 'museum' seems to have been an attempt to catalogue all the animals present in the park area by taxidermy. it effectively shut down in about 1940, but is now kept as a historic reference site. The earliest specimen is a merganser (duck) that was mounted in 1864.

are you still in Banff or have you moved on?
I'm just down the road in Canmore.

If you are looking for a decent coffee, I recommend Whitebark Cafe located in the Banff Aspen Lodge, corner of Moose St and Banff Ave. Across the Moose St from the bronze Moose.
I haven't found anywhere in Banff who do a better coffee.

    Hey Ian,

We're here for 2/3 more days - will actually be driving through Canmore en route to Calgary on the 31st...Fancy a meet up? Thanks for the coffee recommendation - most has been pretty sub-par here!

    Hi,
I've a ski lesson at Sunshine on the 31st so can't meet with you in Canmore.

I could possibly get into Banff on the 30th (Tuesday) -- our car will be in Calgary that day but the bus service between Canmore and Banff is frequent and reliable.

    Let me know
    regards from Alberta, Canada
