    Default Carba-tec Deluxe Alignment System

After a few knocks and drops my dial indicator isn't working as well as it once did. Just looking at it makes it move a couple of ticks in either direction now and I don't trust it any more. If I can't fix it I thought I might treat myself to one of these Carba-tec kits to replace the indicator, get a bunch of better tips and a presumably more accurately made mounting jig than the DIY one I'm currently using (which is still pretty good anyway)

It looks exactly like the A-Line-It system that I've been looking at over the years but there's a fair price difference between CT's and In-Line's ($109/$145).

I don't suppose anyone has used one before and can comment on quality/accuracy etc, and/or knows if they're the same kit?

Why not just replace the dial indicator?

There are any number of reasonably priced dial indicators on Ebay around the $20-40 mark

also kits of tips such as this one

I had thought of just a new indicator but I hadn't thought of a tip kit or using eBay. I suppose one of those tip kits and a quality indicator (M&W or Mitutoyo) bought locally will set me back about as much as the CT kit delivered and I can just keep using my current jigs.

But I want new and different toys!!!

Still, I'd be interested to hear if anyone's used the kit. My current TS jig (post and pics) uses three bearings to keep it tight in the mitre slot; I'm not so sure about the spring loaded rail of the CT kit and if it could wobble and/or wear the components and the edge of the mitre slot.

I bought the C-T one about a year ago and its a beauty. Very happy with it. The accuracy is frightening and even a smidgeons difference is as easy to spot as a drop of spaghetti sauce on a new white shirt.

Hi, i finally took the plunge 18 months back & am very happy with it. Saves me time & makes aligning the machinery accurately a breeze. Definately recommend it

I'd be making sure the CarbaTec one is actually available first. I ordered mine in March of 2012 and actually got it in January of 2013. It's a good product but not really worth the wait.

In actual fact its really not that difficult to make your own using an accessory mitre gauge slide, a bit of scrap timber and a dial gauge from Hare & Forbes (machinery House). Cheap and just as accurate.
