Carbatec Desktop Jointer
Morning guys,
As always space is at a premium in a small shop ( half a double garage). So although I would like to get a "full size" jointer its really not an option.
Has anyone bought one of these jointers ? With 1 1/2 hp sounds fairly strong, obviously the top is a little small but that can be added to.
Any feedback greatly appreciated.
Steve

Steve
I've got one. Good for a small shop. I've only got a single garage size shop and use it for storage as well, so space is tight. I've got no complaints about the jointer, as long as I don't expect it to joint timber longer than about a metre. Maybe some removable extra infeed & outfeed support would help for longer pieces, but I haven't tried that out yet.

Steve I got one a few weeks ago & pretty happy with it (does a better job than me with a hand plane) the fence is a bit fiddely to adjust but I will get used to it. I have only put 800~1000mm tassie oak & jarrah pieces thru it with good results , it is cleaner to use than I thought with dust extracta hose onto bag outlet , the noise is bearable & it comes with 2 push blocks but I could sell you the 2 I bought with it because staff were not sure if it came supplied with any. Also comes with 3 plastic strips & 3 metal bits (as per question in machinery) but fellas at carba tec also unsure what they are for , anyway it works without them.Would be a good idea to get some "silver glide ?" the guys go on about to make it easier to push the timber thru & protect from rust.
It is good in a smaller shop cos i only have the other half of your shed .

Garage?? Why do you think they make cars waterproof?
I tell my friends and my wife that we have a double workshop (but no garage!).
I now have a double workshop, plus small bench area (note - not called a workshop as a triple workshop is just overdoing it), plus small finishing room, plus some storage. There is no way a car can fit in. Well, once I get all the tools I want/need.

Get a full size jointer and put it on a mobile base then you can tuck it away when not in use or move it if it is in the way

For once, just once, I'd like to see a response other than the standard "Buy the bigger tool" response.
Sorry...having a ##### day.Cheers,

Buying the bigger tool is probably the better option, those small jointers are only suited to short lengths of stock. Ideal for model makers

Hi Steve,
I've read through these posts, and am surprised that no-one has suggested that instead of a very small jointer, why not go for a decent jointer hand-plane (e.g. see http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...98&cat=1,41182) - for under $230 Can$ (c AU$350 after freight, etc) - not only can you achieve the same, or better, accuracy and finish, but there's much more pleasure in it; it also takes up very little space..
The dark-side beckons...
Cheers!
