Thread: Timber framed windows and doors - how to?

First off and not wishing to be a wet rag ...

is it possible to achieve the required BAL and BAS ratings if you build your own windows and doors??
The stories I hear imply that certification is either very difficult or very expensive or both.

Modern Practical Joinery by George Ellis (Linden). Around 500 pages and 600 drawings covering almost everything you need to know -- except maybe pre-hung doors. But if you're making your own why would you want pre-hung anyway? This book was first published around 1900 and the 1908(?) if you want to build them right don't rely on youtube for instructions

You have the machines, but what about the tooling? This can become quite expensive for a one-off project. May be an option to have the material run up for you and then do the assembly yourself.
