Default cheap pocket hole screws ?????

Is there a cheap version of the kreg screws?

They are priced 5 times as much as an ordinary screw.

I tried using countersunk chipboard screws but even on the lowest torque setting they still pulled through the side of the pocket. The large head stitching screws are too big for the pocket. I am trying to join 16mm melamine coated particle board.

The kreg inch long screws are #7's .

What would you recommend for joining 16mm particle board or MDF?

    I am thinking #6

6 sounds good. But use the plasterboard screws not the wood screws. They have a bigger cutting thread just like the Kregs and Sachys

Kreg 1.25" pocket screws = $30 for 500. Is this expensive? I thought it an average price given the quality.

Dis advantage to drifting away from the Kreg style screws is in the grip and splitting and pulling through. the Bugle head screws you discribe "plasterboard screws " often pulls through the pocket hole

McFeely's Square Drive Screws - Screws, Fasteners, Festool Power Tools and more offers a slightly lower price.
