Thread: Non China made drill options.

As far as I know, the top end Makita stuff is still made in Japan (belt sanders and routers definitely, not 100% sure on drills), but even their Chinese drills are pretty good; definitely my pick of the budget-friendly bunch.
The obvious choice for non-Chinese is Festool (made in Germany), but unless you have lots of spare cash or can write it off on tax it's hard to justify the price. Protool is their budget sub-brand, not quite the same level of fit-and-finish but still well made tool. I'm very happy with both.
There's Total Tools and United Tools in Melbourne, not sure if they have branches up north, but worth a look.

This is the attitude we all had some 45 years ago about products made in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Look where they are now!!
China is fast following suit and certainly produce some world class products. It is very naive to think that if a product is made in China that it is inferior. Take a close look at all your digital and smart devices and note where they are made. Companies from all around the world are exploiting the cheap labor market China currently has to offer. I've bought many Chinese made products over recent years, some directly from manufacturers over there, and in most part are very impressed with their quality standard.

C&L Tool Centre in Banyo sell just about all the big name brands. A great place to spend a Saturday morning.

Metabo make very good drills.
