Coating old timber
I'm in the process of turning a 1950's saw bench into a TV table and would like to know what products you guys have used to coat old timber.
Something to either spay or brush on would be ideal

I have found danish oil can be applied over rough old wood and even bark. It will darken it a bit but the rough old look is still there. I used it on a bit of old wharf timber that still had barnacle shells on it. Was a mount for an old ships bell. People were well impressed at the presentation.
Regards
John
