Nice work. Love the inlay.

"If a man is after money, he's money mad; if he keeps it, he's a capitalist; if he spends it, he's a playboy; if he doesn't get it, he's a never-do-well; if he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

The World's fastest WIP is now posted here ...
https://www.woodworkforums.com/f87/or...7/#post1430608
but, if I'd messed up cutting off the lids, it may have taken MUCH longer to post!
CH, one of the boxes is for my daughters but they are going to have to fight over it. Is an inheritance thing so happily I won't be around to see it.
Thanks for the comments and ongoing support from all,

That's out-standing craftsmanship Fletty, on average how long does it to make each one?
Just found the WIP, just about to read through it
Great job

Hi Dave, I spent 5 easy 'half days' in the shed,
1 to machine the side channel, make the inset panels and mitre cut the side sections
the second to inlay 2 panels, glue up 1 box and leave the box overnight in clamps to set properly
a third to glue up the second box and leave overnight to set
a fourth to rout the edges on both, sand and shellac
a fifth to wax (and could have cut the lids free and fitted hinges but....)
... probably 10 hours all up to finish 2

Fletty,
the man-hours cost alone would make the value of the box beyond what anyone would want to pay,
But as a wise woodworker once said ' If we could afford to buy what we make, we would not make it!'
Thanks for the wiP.
Has it arrived in Orkney yet, what did the recipient think?Dragonfly

aah dragonfly, that's the beauty of making and giving......
I haven't sent it yet but I managed to spend a couple of hours today going through the papers and scanning what I want to keep. There is an amazing amount of history in those papers and there is much more than I can ever research and use. My family tree drafting has hit a number of snags due to this treasure trove. 1 branch of the family has a preponderance of Janes and I thought I had it sorted until todays readings found the following ... I think?
a man married Jane
they had a daughter Jane
Jane the mother died ....
so he married another Jane
Jane the daughter died in infancy
Jane the new wife had a daughter Jane
Jane grew up and had ...
a daughter Jane
it's a beautiful World,
fletty
