Credit where credit is due - Carbatec
Just a quick note to give some credit to Carbatec for the August 2011 Catalogue which arrived in the post the other day. The integration of the Focus mag is clever and it will be good to have a few editions a year.
Whilst the internet is handy there is something right about having a hard copy just lying around to flip through .......
It is not all chocolates however ...... Carbatec if you do manage to read this please get rid of the guy on his yacht (inside front cover) with his laptop and mobile phone ..... I trust he is ringing through his next order.
I am sure that he is a great guy (perhaps even a forum member) ..... but the setting is cheezy. Why would he be placing an order for a new thicknesser when he is out on the bay??? Photoshop in some workshop clobber and put him in the garage (please).
I love the cabinet on the front!

I'll reserve judgement at this stage on the new format as I was a big fan of the old catalog which had almost everything. The updates during the year re specials and new additions I would simply insert inside the back cover.
The deletion of the index and only keeping a contents page in the new format is not a winner for me.

the old catalog will be missed. I used to keep it out in the shed where the computer isn't, was handy to look up stuff, and the price was close, at least an indication.

I agree with you Stinky concerning the dude on the yacht. If you had a yacht you would not have time to woodwork!
I reckon new catalogue is cost cutting, which is not surprising in the current climate.
Was in the Brisbane store last week and the shop was bare in places..sign of the times perhaps.

The boating section of this forum will disagree I am sure, "No Time For Woodwork if you own a boat" seems from all their posts thats all they have time for getting their craft ship shape.
As for the catalogue I'll know how good it is when and if I go to buy what I am after and they have it in stock.

you are correct wheelinround,
those yachties are very fine woodworkers too. Their tollerances are more exacting than some of us non yachtie woodies projects.

I must say the cabinet on the cover was pretty average. Maybe it is due to the fact that I hate all James-krenov type cabinets.

The Sydney store is looking a bit denuded too.....lots of empty spaces on the shelves.
I typically go there with a list of 10 items I want, and come away with 3 of them.....

I notice that Launceston Tasmania store has not been listed in the directory of Caba-Tec store outlets.
Does anyone have any info re the stores ongoing operation or fate?Hitch

From their website:

If you're not in reach of a local store we also have an extensive independent dealer network with hundreds of stores able to access Carba-Tec® products.
