Cut a polytec door in two?
Hi
I need to cut a wall hung cabin door about 250 mm from the top to allow for a new see through blind that goes on top of the existing bracket.
I wonder with what and how can I cut this Polytec laminated door with ABS 1mm.

Is the door a polytec vinyl clad door or polytec MDF colourboard?
For vinyl clad, it could be cut on a panel saw or a very well setup table saw but it would be virtually impossible to seal the cut edges, so the door would be classed as cactus.
For edged MDF colourboard, a panel saw that is well set up is the basic option as you need an effective scribing blade to cut the lower layer of colour coat while the main blade cuts the board and top colour coat. Main and scribing blades must be exactly the same width and in perfect alignment to get a perfect chip free cut that can be re-edged without it being obvious that the door has been patched. The colour coat is extremely brittle and the lower layer will chip if not perfectly supported during the cut. Any chipping or blade misalignment will be obvious after re-edging.
Your best bet would be to take the door to whoever made it and pay a few bucks to have it done properly, cutting and re-edging should take no more than about 5 minutes, though it might sit for a day waiting it's turn. The people who originally did the job would most likely have edging from the same roll or batch available, ensuring a perfect match.

Thanks for your answer
Ye sit is mdf although I cannot take it back to the same cabinet maker I may ask around who can cut it for me. I thought a fine router bit or even a circular saw with fine teeth can do it if the layer is deeply marked before hand.Australian Pensioners Forums
