Dadonator®
Does anyone have experience with this brand of dado set? I'm in the process of deciding how poor I want to get and wonder if this particular brand, sold by Northwood Tools is as good as Freuds and CMTs. Not that I expect that any of you have both or all of those...but the review that I read about this set at http://www.onlinetoolreviews.com/rev...ydadonator.htm
looked bloody marvellous!
Awaiting comments....thanks for them in advance!

Cellist, don't know how much the Infinity "Dadonator" set costs, but I have the Northwood Tools "home brand" dado set, which sells for $149.95 inc delivery. I have been very impressed with this set, have used it extensively to cut dados in meranti, red gum, MDF and exterior plywood (nest boxes). I would buy it again, although I would probably buy it from Carbatec who had this IMHO identical looking set on the counter as a "new product" with a princely cost of $95!!! This was a week ago in the Melbourne store.

Yes, it does indeed, but having said that my "home brand" at half the price (or a third the price at Carbatec) has done everything I have asked of it and I don't know how the "Dadonator" set (what a bl**dy awful name!) could improve on what the "home brand" set does.
I make quite a few nest boxes and cut rebates for the bottom in C/D exterior plywood, notoriously difficult to get a clean cut in. Every one of those 19mm x 6mm rebates is as clean as a whistle and the boxes can be assembled without having to sand the rebates.
I can't ask for more than that, but perhaps other people are fussier than me.
If you have a look at my stable door thread you can see what sort of job this set did in meranti.

The Dadonator exceeds the bottom cut quality that I could get with the Northwood Dado set and my Freud SD208 set. 'The Dadonator is quite easily the best dado set I have used to date. Its definitely worth the $ if you want the highest quality cut and blade longevity.
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

G'day Mike, I have a Dadonator and live in Nollamara if you wish to try it out you are welcome to do so. They are an excellent peice of equipment of the highest quality and well worth the money.

Shame you can't buy this direct from the states with the aussie dollar so strong. Seems Northwood have a monopoly on Infinity products in Australia otherwise it would be much cheaper to buy it directly yourself.

Infinity Tools won't ship direct to Australia but it looks like Amazon have some Dadonator + blade packages that will ship to Oz - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hi...onator&x=0&y=0
Cheers,

Dadonator
I got the dadonator a week ago. The quality of the cuts are amazing. Dead flat sizes and flat, super-smooth bottoms. I tossed up whether to get the Northwood home brand but the reviews and feedback I've seen for the DN convinced me to shell out the extra bucks. Very happy with it.
Cheers

Thanks Harry72 - I'm all for supporting local suppliers and I only ever hear good feedback about Northwoods.
I guess I'm still trying to get my head around why we pay so much more in Australia for so many woodworking tools and products - USD $288.90 (Amazon) vs AUD $463.00 (Northwoods) for the same set of blades is a big difference in price.

Northwood dado and Dadonator
Just to clarify two statements made in this thread, the Northwood Dado set has C4 Carbide, the carbatec C2, the Northwood Dado is 42 tooth, the Carbatec 24 tooth, the Northwood Dado is branded, the carbatec I believe is not. What does that say about the quality - not the same spec ! ! You get what you pay for.
The Infinity Dadonator sells for $329.00 not $463, it never has sold at that price but at the peak of the Aussie dollar doldrums it sold for $379.00 quite some time ago now.
Hope this makes the issues clearer.

Hi Ingrid - thanks for the follow up on this thread.
Just to clarify from my side... I wasn't suggesting Northwood's charge $463 for the Infinity Dadonator alone. The set Amazon have for sale includes the Infinity Dadonator PLUS (010-050) 50 Tooth Combination Blade PLUS (010-080) 80 Tooth Laminate Blade.
At the time I posted on 10th Aug the price on the Nothwood's website was:
Dadonator $279
(010-050) Combination Blade $95
(010-080) Laminate Blade $89
Total $463.00
I see that the price of the Dadonator has gone up since 10th Aug to $329 making the total for the 3 products AUD $513.00. Amazon's price for the same products is USD $288.90
I'm keen to get your perspective as the supplier why these products (and so many other woodworking tools) cost so much more in Aus than they do in the US?
Cheers,
Geoff

Good on you Gimjam. You have politely and courteously made your point.
This is the same point I was originally making in an earlier part of this thread. I bought some veritas planes straight from lee Valley at incredibly cheaper costs than Carbatec could supply. Don't mind paying something for shipping and a mark up for some profit but don't like being ripped off. Perhaps Northwood or Carbatec could explain where the margins go.
