    Default Delta

Hi people, i'm interested to know if it is at all possible to purchase Delta Machinery in Australia, i have been told that Black & Decker own Delta & will not allow them to sell here. Interested to know if this is true or not, because there are a couple of items i would really like to at least examine up close.

    thanks Casperc

Nope - you won't find Delta gear anywhere in Oz. I vaguely remember Carbatec used to keep a nice Delta thicknesser (with cutterhead lock), but they sold these off cheap when Black & Decker came on the scene.

As far as quality woodworking products go, I'm afraid B&D is the kiss of death....

B&D also own Porter Cable and Dewalt. No more PC in OZ but thankfully still some Dewalt albeit a limited range compared to what is available in other countries. B&D have put the kybosh on tool supplies here in OZ. We must just hope that they do not take over any more reputable tool companies such as Makita, Bosch or Festool . They can have Ryobi and Ozito.

Pity about Delta. I got a secondhand Delta tablesaw in January and it is a really well made bit of gear. At least I can still get blades, belts and things for it.

Here's a thought. Why would a company want to compete against itself. How about this for a thought. You are at a customer giving a quote and after you hand them the quote they ask you can you do it cheaper. Why would I compete against myself.

That to me is what Black and Decker has done.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

    Default Delta

Thanks for all the responses, & i am sorry if it got the blood pressure up, but what ever happened to the Free Trade Agreement & Restriction of Trade Legislations, there must be some avenue for us to shove it up B&D. I thought it would be better business to have as many avenues for sales as possible, so as to have a chance to beat the competition

i was wanting a delta tablesaw, was told that black and decker are the pits to deal with. well i decided to ring them and ask if the bring in the Delta saws, No-one was available .....we will ring you back, waited 2 weeks!. rang back again ....everyone is busy, we will ring you back! Its been two months now and last time i checked the phone was still working.

Emailed delta usa for some one that could help.... they refered me to black and decker.

I should have listened to the person that told me "Dont even waste your time with Black AND dECKER".

Makes you wonder what would happen if you had a problem with a saw the make. If they wont even follow up a sales lead.

Shame on you B&D, one day you may need people like us to keep you in business?

When I speak to people at the tool stores in Perth, they all tell me pretty much the same thing about the bad service from B&D. In fact some of them refuse to carry any lines from B&D. It's a real shame. The Delta and Porter Cable brands are really good and I understand why the Americans love these tools and machinery.

I bought a Delta thicknesser in Melbourne about 7 years ago, but now I can't get a replacement blades any more. Seems like Delta parts are not available in Australia. I was happy with the thicknesser though.

I have a Delta thicknesser and can't get it to feed the timber through, i've checked all the settings, but no go, I also have the 14" bandsaw and it is great. Not being able to get blades for the thicknesser is a disturbing thought tho.

When HP took over Compaq in 2001 they decided to keep the Compaq brand and sell some PC's badged Compaq, and others badged HP. They figured it was better to have the whole wall at the Harvey Normans and others filled with all their products rather than half. So it appears that there is choice but it all goes into the same pocket.
