Desperate to know
Hi,
I'm stalled on a project replacing timber in my wife's 38 Dodge utility. The photos show why I have to and how little is left for a template.
Would Queensland maple be ok as a structural timber,as I have not found a cost effective source of coachwood which was the original species used.
If not maple any suggestions?
Regards, Bill

I'd guess Maple would be a good enough wood for the flatbed of the old Dodge. And I've never heard of Coachwood, but I do know that here in the UK old cars (and even current Morgans) used Ash to frame their vehicles.
So maybe you can source some of that, might even be cheaper, it would be here in England.Dragonfly

By the look of the Dodge you stalled quite a while ago. Be a nice truck done up.

Old school desks, chairs and forms were coach wood, before they went to ply and plastic. Have a scout about ,you may get lucky.

If you are looking for an authentic appearance, maybe you could use coachwood marine ply.

QLD maple is only a class 4 durability timber. Should only be used in dry location. Doesn't like getting wet and dry. Not susseptable to borer attack. Coachwood a better option. Maybe coachwood marine ply?
