    Default door skin repair

    G'day all
got a quick question. Never done it before but I'm pretty sure I know how but rather check first. Need to replace a door skin that's coming off. What is a good way of taking off the old (yet to come unstuck) skin and what is the best way to put a new piece on. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but......

    hey new
are you talking about an entry type door to say a garage or laundry or back of house.
then $60 will get you a new one...if it is an internal where there is no weather problems than $25 will get a new one. if your fond of that door...then there is a product at bunnings called vice grip glue. it is a golden liquid that is normally next to aqadhere. this stuff is fantastic and i have used it heaps for external jobs. as it hardens it foams up and bridges gaps. it dries a little flexible. in this situation it would be great. use a damp cloth with it when you clamp it. as it is a little messy to clean up after.
    hope this helps.

    Hi New,

yep I'm with Glen, once you start to take the door skin off you will undoubtedly rip all the honeycomb cardboard off at the same time from the inside, grab a new one. The cost difference between a new door and a sheet of Masonite can't be that great. In fact if it's internal I reckon the doors cheaper.

    Cheers

thanks guys, i kinda had the same in mind - funny thing is, as expected, skin is way bad, and the whole thing is split,, better get a new door. New dilemma, door is 807 wide or so and @2030 tall. Not too sure but was that a rough standard size years ago? Now i also have to replace a security door hinge, trying to find one is fun.

    Oh well, thanks again

And easy to trim off the top and one side to fit . . . Get the measurements right and most door places will trim for you even Bunnies! But if you get the measuring wrong you get to keep the door as an extra cost spare!
