    Default An old dragon stabiliser

This is a quick fix for a wobbly mother-in-law.

The stick itself was turned from a Walnut off-cut. The antler handle was shaped with a file, cleaned up with sandpaper and buffed with U-Beaut's EEE.

The steel-tipped brass ferrule is from a selection bought for me by Mrs. Wood at a craft fair some time ago.

How did you steady the stick whilst turning WW. I imagine there would have been some flexing as it got thinner. It looks good and MIL should like it

Flexing was an issue when turning the stick, but I'm of the school of turners who supports the revolving work with two or three fingers of the left hand. Some would argue it's a dangerous practice, but it works for me.

As it's for the MIL, I take it there's no sword inside?

I was once told that the ideal length for a walking stick should match the users inside leg measurement, dare I ask ?????

If that's the case, I should rename mine a kidney support! I've always gone by the knobbly wrist bone (with the arms by one's side) as the standard measurement.
