    Default drill press

I'va got one of those cheap Chinese pedestal drill presses. But the chuck just doesn't run true. When I put a bit in, it always makes a circle. This is a bloody nuisance.

Does anybody have suggestions how I could fix it?

    regards

Dod, beg steal or borrow a run-out guage,if you don't have one and check the Quill and the Pulley individually.either one or both may be transmitting the mis=alignment to the drill!
Also check the Jacobs chuck that goes up into the Quill for any imperfections.

You could try a morse taper drill bit (get rid of the chuck temporarily). If there is still runout then the Quill might be either damaged or machined wrong. Or if you have a lathe then a center out of your tail stock might fit, either way you will be able isolate the chuckand its mount.
