    Default More eBay madness

I love browsing & buying from eBay as much as the next person, but a pair of used duoklamps still have almost 5 days to go and are already selling for more than a couple of brand new ones from Northwood. They're even getting close to the Carbatec price.

Surely for something so easily available online you'd do a quick search to check the new price?

We once sold a box of nappies we never used because our daughter grew up too quickly for more than the department store price + postage on top of that. Don't know what people's issue is but maybe the joy of bidding and winning takes over all logic and common sense.

    Default e bay maddness

this reminds me of a farm auction i was at and watched 2 not so young fellas go for it over an old batterd rega napsack that looked like the owner had hated it ,when the auctioneer who was a stock and station agent reached double the price of a new one, he got a worried look because he was friends with both of them.Lloyd.

    Not just restricted to eBay.

Have a look at Grays-on-line every now and then. By the time you add delivery, auction fee, and GST if it is applicable, things get stupid especially if you use the ORP (original retail price) that they quote, yes that price may have been valid 18 months ago when the product first came out, but not now.

Bought a plasma from The Good Guys here in Melbourne, ORP $3099, got it for $2290, by just saying no that's too much. Best price I could get anywhere else was $2599.

In the last three months, I have had two bad experiences with e-Bay sellers, goods arriving with parts missing, e-mail promises to send parts not honoured.

    No more for me.

That must be frustrating. I don't remember ever having a problem with a seller. I had a frustrating buyer once, but nothing major.

Only two possible explanations make any sense at all:

    1. Auction fever.
    2. Global epidemic of stupidity.

I have noticed a huge up tick in dud sellers in the past year. I had 600+ transactions with only two fraudsters in six years, since then 8 duds in maybe 20 deals. I use Paypal exclusively now, got a full refund through them in 6 cases, the other two seller made good after months of BS.

I still look, but the item/price has to be pretty charming to get my bid anymore. I think 80% of my shop came from ebay, now I can't even find things I need, let alone at a reasonable price.

The only things I'm currently seeking are older items no longer available at the original quality level if at all. I still see bidders pay retail + for stuff. I had one guy bid so high for one of my items I had to give him $100 off just so that I could sleep that night.

just an update on the bessey duo klamp madness.

they are now bidding at $102.50 plus $8.00 for postage. still one day left on bidding, so get your bids in quick!

i feel sorry for the poor bugger who pays the amount.

what are peoples thoughts on this, would it be better to contact the poor bugger or is ignorance bliss....?

    regards, justin.

    Ouch!

They seemed to have stalled at $56 so I stopped looking.

But now I can't look away. It's a bit like watching a car accident really.

Is it possible to contact a bidder to warn them if you are not the seller?

hi gonty, i have contacted 1 or 2 bidders in the past but never received any thanks for my good deeds so i stopped doing it.

anyway, ebay has now made all bids annonymous, so you cannot contact the highest bidders like you used to.

there is 1 other way to contact them.......

after the sale is ended and feedback has been exchanged from both parties, you can check the sellers feedback and it shows the full name of the buyer for that particular item. so it is possible.
i just could'nt be bothered doing the leg work.

    regards, justin

I do not think that it matter how much you pay for an item as long as you are happy with the item.

I used to help out in a computer shop and people would say I got this for that. I could not tell them that they paid too much always the same answer thats good.

Never liked making people feel bad.

    Condition: Used
    Finish: High gloss polyurethane
    RRP: AUD $62 a pair

    Maybe they like the finish.

    Crazy isn't it?
