Default Not exactly a Woodie project, but,.......

Here's one for, " All the brainy people out there, "
Has anyone come up with good ideas for incorporating old CD's / DVD's into useful Woodworking Projects ?
I have had a look at various crafty sites on the net,- plenty of simple ideas mostly for Kids,- but very, very little for making good use of old CD's / DVD's in Woodworking projects.

If I can obtain some innovative, & useful ideas on this unique subject, I plan to put together an artical for publication in The Australian Woodworker Magazine later this year, for something different for interested Woodies to have a go at.

There's literally millions of old CD's / DVD's around. Unfortunately the vast majority get thrown out into the Trash can, or, ( quite often ) , ditched on the roadside, footpath, etc., by thoughtless people, therefore IF you can come up with some innovative useful ideas, simply contact me via this site.

I have a spinning top that is a wooden spindle that inserts into an old CD. The CD has labels printed with colours that form various patterns when it spins.
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

I've also seen them in spinning tops, also as coasters for your coffee cup and used in gardens as light reflectors to scare birds and cats but not normally hanging from any fancy wooden construction - then again it's an idea that could be explored.

I have not tried this but read they can be used as spacers for stacked dado blades.
