Default Experiences with The Wood Works Book and Tool Co?

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has dealt with The Wood Works Book and Tool Co? Any experiences to share? Positive or negative?

I came across them in March and placed a small order which still hasn't arrived after 3 months. When I've tried to chase them via email, they don't reply and getting them on the phone has been difficult - I did get through once.

    Michael

I have used them twice, and found them to be very efficient, recieved the order promptly. they even rang me once because i had doubled up on the order inadvertently. hope you can sort out the issue.

When they have the item in stock, they have been great. Otherwise variable quality in dealing with them

My experience has been positive. On one order, they were out of stock on a couple of the files I ordered, the first part of the order turned up as expected, and the remainder turned up about two weeks later, they covered the freight on the second shipment.
I would have no hesitation ordering from them again, though it would be nice to know before ordering if the items were in stock or not. They are not the only ones to operate like this I believe.

I bought something from them and it turned up fine.

I tried to buy a set of decent brad points bits through them, the item went on back order (so they don't charge you till the item actually turns up) but 2 years later with an email every so often leads me to believe the brad points are never turning up. The actual in stock item turned up fine though.

As state by others, my experiences have been fine. Sometimes they don’t have an item in stock so you may have to wait a week or two depending on their supplier and availability.
I have always had best success with phone when contacting them.

I too have found that Michael at The Wood Works Book and Tool Co, has recently struggled to administer the business professionally, I hope it is not poor health affecting the business and wish him the best.
That said The Wood Works Book and Tool Co. offer some of the best quality, specialist and difficult to find, woodworking tools.
It would be a terrible shame to lose such a fine tool supplier, Australia is lucky to have such a wonderful woodworking tool resource.
If one chooses to do business with The Wood Works Book and Tool Co. and I would still do so, make sure to be very carefully in any communication and followup with both the order and accounts.
It might be a good time for some young entrepreneur with a bit of energy and foresight to acquire The Wood Works Book and Tool Co. Often small business run as a one-man band fade away slowly. With a bit of energy injected this business has an opportunity for significant expansion.

I agree snowgum, they have an amazing array of tools available - many of which are hard to find. I've bought from them on a few occasions but if something isn't in stock then you do have to get used to the wait as many items come from overseas.

I just noticed that the website says the owner is retiring and the business is for sale Wood Works for sale - The Wood Works Book & Tool Co.

As you say, it would be a shame to lose such a resource, so I too hope someone will be willing to take it on.

Have a read of their google reviews, my experience mirrors what is repeated there many times. The owner was extremely hard to get in contact with and simply did not do what he said. Would never deal with again unless bought by a more professional operator.
