Father's day Present
I have a problem. My two daughters purchased some additions for my workshop.. From Carba -Tec I received the 50 inch Pro Grip Panel Guide plus the deluxe circular saw base to slide in the T Track system.
This is because I use a lot of plywood and the $2 straight edge jig I used was creating some annoyance which I was happy with rather than part with $150 for the pro Grip system. Now, I have to condition myself to take the plunge and adapt the saw base or make on myself as it is too good for my old Ryobi circular saw.
I don't think even with all my fatherly skills I can get them to love their dear old kind harted, wonderful, always their for them, BS enough to get me a a lovely green festool plunge saw for Christmas.
The next problem is a bit harder to solve. Daughter No 1 amonst other things took the easy option for her and included a $100 Bunnings voucher. What respectable " wanna be " woodworker can find a use for that. I even offered it to my wife to get some Deck Oil and she failed to take up the offer.
I would like to purchase some nice chisels to do some hand dovetails but I think a Bunnings chisel does not have the same ring as a Lie -Neilsen or a Blue Spruce. How would you spend the $100 without adding too much to it.

Yep. I have been blessed I know. I had second thoughts about posting incase it appeared I was ungrateful, far from it in reality.
Its that I now have to figure out what Bunnings might have to offer my workshop. Their prices are going up and their quality is heading out the back door. I do not enjoy going there anymore. I am fortunate that I have just about every bit of crap available from there and am now looking to move a bit more upmarket in the quality stakes.
Anything of quality there in the brand names is over priced, I guess the voucher might have to be used for some gardening consumables that I can not get from my Rural store that looks after me really well.

Maybe Bunnings don't have great tools but I am certain it wouldn't be difficult to spnd $100 in there.
Paint
electrical fittings
Plants
fertiliser
batteries
nuts/bolts etc
glue
storage
potting mix
garden tools
housewares
do I need to go on?

Cruzi. I have found a source with cheaper and better quality sandpaper than Bunnings have.
Abrasive Manufacturing Supplies. They are in Brisbane but have a small depot here on the Coast.
They have everything you want as they supply the commercial trade. They have stuff in all grades depending on how deep your pockets are and how great your need.
PS I hope your Wood Club day today is a success, Sorry I cannot make it but I believe Neil 'dai sensei " will be there with his camera.

Voucher is no good over here so send it to my mate, the Mayor of Munruben.
Bunnings have some pretty good clamps, BTW.

Add $100 and get yourself a new circular saw to replace the ryobi. If memory serves the little makita is less than $200 and is an awesome simple saw. I bought one myself to replace a bigger GMC that was just too heavy.

That might be the answer I am looking for. I really do not want to put the Ryobi on the ProGrip saw base/ Seems like I would be going two paces forward and three back.
Do you have the model number of the Makita you are talking about so I can follow up?
Thanks, I was going to take Arthur's advice and give the voucher to the Mayor. Looks like he might miss out now, but at least John will know I was thinking of him.

Hi Peter,
Sorry for taking so long, I have not had a chance this last week or so to get out to the shed to check on the model number. I am in process of building a new workshop so everything is very chaotic at the moment.
Anyway the saw I purchased for less than $200 was the Makita 5606B, here is the relevant page on the makita site.
http://www.makita.com.au/index.php/p...saw?Prodid=147
So its a fairly standard and simple 160mm saw that comes with two makita blades. These are a bit of a pain to get into the saw (maybe I am doing it wrong!), but its nice and light and feels very solid.
EDIT: With the Makita blade I cut redgum easy as! I love this saw, so much lighter than the Triton 235mm (that I flogged on ebay) and the GMC 235mm platinum saw (that gathers dust in my shed).

I'm with you too Pellcorp, love the Makita. Just put my second blade on after 4 years to cut some melamine panel. To my surprise, I had very little chipping on the edges. It complements my tool collection very well and I saw these on special recently for $169.00.

Thanks for the reply. I will look out for them when I am next in Bunnings. I think I saw one at Glenford's on the weekend but I think the price was about $249.
I will recheck.
Thanks
Peter
