I feel that a ginormous apology is in order.
I have read the forum diligently for aprox. 2 years now, and have really admired the woodwork pics, and the hints that all you blokes have been kind enough to post. I went to the woodwork show last year, and to the create from a crate in North Melb.
The thoughts that came to mind were that if one had the right tools and a decent plan, just about anyone shoud be able to complete a reasonable job that is square and with no gaps.
Man was I wrong!!!!!!
I am halfway through a 2.5 mt wide bookcase, and have never had to think so much in my life, or make so many mistakes. I know that I do not have to worry about alzeimers any more, as woodworking as a hobby is going to keep my brain active for years to come.
Anyway, back to my title.
I want to apologise to all you masters out there that have helped me, and us all in general. I took you all for granted, thinking that it was easy, and that anyone could do it.
I toff me hat (Foily if I felt entitled to wear it) to you all, and feel that I want to get on my knees, face East, and praise you all as gods. The only problem is that at my age, I cannot get on my knees.
Yours sincerely,
Tony.

Well quite obviously your not talking to me.
But things to note is these blokes are not in the east thats mecca & muslims face there.
you might find facing south a better option as thats where tassie is and most of the good gear that these boys like to play with is down there
I know that SA isnt a timber mecca unless your rather fond of pine but we do have some nice bush timbers if you can get your hands on it.
As for gods I think not, just train the hands & your mind to improve your skills, plus emptying your wallet lots & lots of times over can also help.
But it helps if you have been doing it for a while.
Cheers Ian

Tony,
My absolute worst subject at school by a long way was woodwork.
I truly loved woodwork but I usually only managed to scrape a pass mark.
It took a long while for the penny to drop for me.
In Spite Of This
How boring would life be without an enjoyable challenge?
Why waste life doing things that are easy.
So I spent most of my adult life as a pro woodie.
Nowadays there is virtually nothing I couldn't make out of wood at a good standard.
Am I a Master ?? I suppose so - but only in some areas of woodwork.
So hang in there and it will all come together and your work will improve all the time.

Im the same, lack of space and tools makes it hard to do some things but I manage to get by. The coffee table I want to do may be a different story though.

Tony, just about everything I've learned in woodworking has been from making mistakes then figuring out (or being taught) how to do it correctly.

Tony,
As an old friend used to say "The man who never made a mistake never made anything".
Man, I've made a lot of er, things!
Yer, it's hard to see how this avocation is "relaxing" at times, but it is, it is!
CheersIW
