    Default Figured Jacaranda

Here is a chunk of downed Jacaranda pinched from a mates winter warming stock. Decision is what to do, slice and make a small box, slice for pan blanks or turn something from the whole piece. I have 2 pieces and not sure if second is the same as this one. I picked it up about a year ago and its been kicking around a storage unit and now the shed since then. today I decided to run it over he jointer to square up for the band saw, and lo and behold, this is what I found, so am pretty excited.
Looking at it I wish I had picked up more and that he hadn't hacked it up so much.

It's a bit hard to see what's going on in your photo - try this.

I think a bowl or box would be the best use for it as there is not enough variation in the grain to look spectacular in a small piece like a pen. I assume it is more like the colours in your original photo as Jacaranda is usually a fairly light wood. If it was as dark as what Bob has done to your photo then a pen would be a good use for some of it.

I did it using the "Photoshop" Program using the Levels function most Photo Apps can do something similar. I've done many things in my time including teaching film based, and digital photography. I know some of my photos are not that good either but that is just me being slack. Dust control was always something I did a work because it interfered with many other things I was doing.

Not having been sucked into the turning vortex by choice, I would make a box out of the Jacaranda. I think using box joints and a curing finishing oil on the box would look fabulous!

Yes, to show off the full beauty it needs a box. If I flip over to the other machines side it's got some awesome stripes. I'll try post another pic later.
