Flaking chipboard under tabletop
I recently bought an old table that has a chipboard top with laminex on the upper side. I didn't notice that the underside was all flaky - is there anything I can do to stop the flakes coming away every time its touched? Many thanks!

You could try sealing it with varnish/lacquer.

Coat with marine epoxy, use some of the TPRDA thinners to help it get in. If its really crumbly, you might need to drill some small (4mm) holes to help it penetrate. You can use a syringe to force epoxy into these holes.

I helped a friend who had similar problem, we just mixed pva glue one part to four parts water, turned table over and gave it two or three flood coats, worked well.

Its a common problem with chipboard in the tropics. If the table top edge is also laminexed then the chipboard edge is probably expanding.
