    Default Garden bed corners

    Hello woodworkers!

I have been a forum browser for quite a while but have not asked many questions before. Always a great read!

I build garden beds for people and usually in the corner I will install an upright to screw or bolt the boards to. I have seen many garden beds constructed where they are simply screwed together into the end grain which then falls apart in a year or so..

My question is what are some good techniques to join at 90 degrees 2 pices of timber - keeping in mind it is for garden beds. I have access to a resnable range of woodworking tools.

    Thanks in advance!

a little bit of work, but if you install a 15 or 20mm dowel in the end grain stick, the screwing into end grain becomes screwing into cross grain

I do this a bit and have always gone to my local supplier of things for surveyors etc and bought bundles of rough sawn 2x2 pegs

i have made some using the domino on treated pine sleepers .. they are very strong and with the triton superjaws, very easy to do as well (no bending over)

Could you not use a half lap joint with a peg driven through it to secure it all mechanically? The peg could be left long to drive into the ground to help secure it.
